MIRRORMINDED CURIOUSITEASE
a performance inspired by the restless corpse of James Joyce's Finnegans Wake
and the deviant eye of his daughter Lucia.
Dance: Ephia and Benjamin Kraus. Live Sound: Jeff Gburek. Video Projection: Diegonante presented in Potsdam at @ UNIDRAM 15. Festival fuer junges Theater in Europa
19:00 November 5, 2008.

James Joyce, giant of modern literature, continually on the verge of becoming blind, named his only daughter Lucia. She was his mirrorminded, cross-eyed saint of vision. Through his thick “fathom glasses” he watched her dance, setting fires left and right, fueling the creation of Finnegans Wake, burning her own tethers to reality.

WORKSHOPS:

Body Mapping/Getting Lost: dance-theaterworkshop
with DJALMA PRIMORDIAL SCIENCE
29. - 31. December 2008 and 2. - 4. January 2009
During this time of changing years,
we research a poetic anatomy,
together forming a bridge to cross into the unknown.

Five hours daily training of body, voice, sensory perception, observation: We begin with a rigorous warm-up, unleashing the body's energy reserves and moving this charge through the collective body of the group, establishing the voice and breath as an extension of the organs. With blind eyes, we construct a map of the body's history, in order to get lost. Standing still to discover an Earth in constant movement. We transplant our heart into new soil and listen for the unpredictable patterns of growth. We thread our nerves through the material of the universe, cultivating an inner connection to the outer environment. This study of the transformative habits of Matter, Sound and the Ur- Matter of Space leads us towards a dance of existing rather than expressing, a dance that lightly touches the transparent limits of the Subtle and rattles beyond the thresholds of the Extreme. In a moment of confusion we encounter our foreign body: a shifting emotional landscape, a map undergoing disruption.

Live sound by Jeff Gburek accompanies the entire workshop. Mixing environmental sound materials and electronics he creates atmospheres that help to deepen the internal experience of the mover, facilitating the inward search for movement that defies social and aesthetic boundaries.

MYOPIA: the secret boxcars of pubescence
unsound body: Ephia, Live sound: Jeff Gburek.

Lyon, France.

October 2, 2007.
