Up and Coming Projects (seeking other label support):
Claus Van Beber/Jeff Gburek
Session recorded at Nur Nicht Nur studios, Kleve, 2006 with installation and sound artist Van Beber unusual in that he only used one turntable rather than his usual vast array. Energetic and precise with many suprises.
Releases available on Orphan Sounds
PHYSICAL ADDRESS
Culled from sessions of location recordings, closed circuit mixing board, digital re-appropriations of his own guitar sounds and one collaboration with Swedish audio artist Anders Dahl (manipulating magnetic speaker feedback), this CDR offers some of the widest range of textures and dynamics Jeff Gburek has been able to work with thus far, running the gamut from doubtfully audible to volcanic throbbings addressed to the literal walls and the cracks therein. Cover art by Ephia. Limited to 100 copies worldwide, August 2005.
ENTLARVUNG
Entlarvung is a 4 channel sound environment. Realization requires that two portable playback devices with the smaller variety of ear-phones be placed on opposite ends of an enclosed room. The devices should then be set to playing simultaneously. The shape of the room and position of the devices is very important, as is the volume setting, which should be somewhere between mid to full and balanced between the two devices. Since all sound comes through only these tiny speakers, heard by one who freely wanders about the room, the position of the listener and room reflectivity determine the character of the experience. ENTLARVUNG is a non-conclusive network of sound. Each channel is unique and there is no attempt to represent any “original” stereo simulacrum. This is not a commercial recording to be inserted into your home or car stereo’s playback device. This release subverts the usage of CD technology towards the ends of the indeterminate composition. These two CD-Rs contain 4 separate sound files that are considered the materials and score for “ENTLARVUNG”, a non-conclusive sound network. First installation in Amsterdam, Marci Panis Salon, May 2004. Cover design by Ephia.
WIFE LIFE TRIPE DAMMIT & THAT: Homage to Antonin Artaud
Improvisations around and with the voice of Antonin Artaud based on materials used in the Djalma Primordial Science performance “Ci-Git: Six Pregnancies for Antonin Artaud”. Electro-acoustic guitar, closed circuit mischpult, ordinateur, digital stretches of Artaud’s voice, sub-aquatic swamp noise, mosquitoes, macerated baroque organ, turntables, Virginian peeper frogs, Vietnamese child-song, short-wave radio frequencies, backed by deeply swelling bass ambiences and microtonal glissandi-- an very carefully paced, absorbing and evocative environment. The second CD features field recordings from Sierra Tarahumara environments (Mexico), including Peyote ceremony music, recorded by Djalma Primordial Science in October 2003. Offered as two CDR set with portrait of Artaud by Jeff Gburek.
THE BLACK TRANSPARENCY volumes I & II
Jeff Gburek: electric table guitar, signal processing, looped input mixing board.
I would like to call this "marked sound"--to refuse the classicist transparency of recording & create sounds that would not exist externally from the medium. Working in/against the digital grain with analog, real-time tools, pushing the level of distortion signals into self-cancellation and crackling "silences", a work thoroughly hydraulic, exploiting full stereo spectrum, gushing and soaring white noise, explosions of color, tubes of rushing air, valves, very physical, at times sounding like the work of a horn or an journey through the intestines of a particle accelerator.
100 copies each volume CDR, Sept/Oct 2004
THE ONLY ESCAPE IS A DREAM
An acoustic documentary recorded in Los Lunas, Fort Stanton & Albuquerque, NM.
All materials compiled, assembled and mixed by Jeff Gburek for Djalma Primordial Science's performance installation "asylum: a study of place and ghost". This work is built from sonically tracing the contours of the various post-institutional asylum sites with microphones and reassembling them so that the architecture unfreezes into a kind of objective narrative of fossils found there. Supplemented by electronic sounds and recordings of water environments to mirror concerns in the photography of Yekaterina Yushmanova, videography of Ben Walsh and unsound body dance of Ephia, filling out the theme of the project. Limited to 150 copies, June 2004
RADIO WIDE WORLD! 1996-2004
4 CD set of shortwave radio improvisations/hearings registered first in Florence, Italy, 1996. Forever unfinished and either evolving or disintegrating under constantly changing editing technology, Radio Wide World is an origin & genetic silt-marsh of musics to come. Always at the psychedelic heterodyning center is an ungraspable molten invisible transmitted between the short-wave radio pulses that imply aliens and voices from the Nth dimension, crackling with solar flares and x-ray cell-phone jive, mangled symphonies, sonic miscegenations, polyglot news flashes, numbers & cesspools of space-junk orbiting a dying planet.
CD 1: Series 1 & 2: Combing the Ether for Strings/Astral Weeds
CD 2: Series 3: Ba’ Benzele Ghost Circuit
CD 3: Series 4: Ambient Orientalism
CD 4: Series 5 & 6: Nostalgia for the Planet Earth 1 & 2

Andreas Wenzlova/ "The Drone Organ by Wenzlova"
The composer/inventor & percussionist from Berlin’s Mahotok writes, "…the drone organ transformates the whole city into an orchestra with infinite players." He offers thanks to LaMonte Young for the inspiration to create the Drone Organ: a pair of ten-foot long conical tubes that sit, just like your ears, on the opposite sides on your head. Taking Marshall MacLuhan by the horns, Andreas has extended our semicircular canals into the heavens. You may never hear it live, but this disc brings it all home to your auditory mid-brain; recorded New Year’s Eve at Turn of the Millenium with the sky above Berlin sonically afire. 2001, CDR. STILL AVAILABLE!
Djalma/ "The Rags of Larium Pali"
Neel Murgai (sitar, daf), Chris Forsyth (e.gtr), Rich Gross (cl.), Gburek (perc.), Muriel Vergnaud (fl.), Drew Gardner (kybrd.), Marcelo Aguirre (gamelan), Ephia (gamelan). Three very strong incarnations of Djalma, two in Brooklyn, one in Berlin. Originally released with two tracks for 2000 USA tour. Gamelan track added later. 2000-01, CDR: OUT OF PRINT
